A Brief Respite From Work

I'm back! At least, for the moment. I took today off to get some things done (namely laundry) and get ready for tomorrow. A quick update:

Things at work have really picked up, and I hope they stay that way. We've been working really hard to get everything cleaned up and cleared out so that we can welcome more people into the church. Attitudes have changed and I'm really excited to see what God has in store for us.

I'm the chair for the PTA Arts in Education program this year, and I've been working my butt off! This is as much work as school was, but honestly, it's a bit more fulfilling. We're also gearing up for our arts and crafts show in November, and I'm ready to get rid of some of my art work. I just don't have room for it all, and hey, who doesn't need a little money?

I celebrated my birthday a little early with my in-laws last night. (It's Monday by the way - hint, hint.) They really do love me! lol I got the limited edition of Plants vs. Zombies, which if you haven't played, is awesome. My new profile pic shows just how awesome it really is. Yes, that's a zombie. It's my zombie! It's a me zombie!! lol  This version of the game lets you create your own zombitar, and it actually shows up in the game as you're playing. I know, I'm a little obsessed, but what do you expect from the Zombie Mommy?

Tomorrow we're having a memorial luncheon for my grandfather. No, it isn't my grandfather we always go camping with. I promise when he goes I won't be able to function for a couple of weeks, at least. This was my mom's dad, who we hadn't had much contact with. I can honestly say that I only remember seeing him twice, and the last time was 15 years ago. He was an amazing man despite that. He was in the Air Force and worked for NASA and Defense Logistics. His work was only declassified a few years ago and included working on nuclear missile silos. He was a smart man who was a self educated engineer. I'm pretty sure he was a member of Mensa. If not, he certainly would have had no problem getting in. I wish I had the chance to know him better, but we were, for the most part, cut out of his life thanks to his wife. I'm honestly not sure what she had against this family, and my mom in particular, but there's nothing we can do to change that. We move on with our lives each day, and strive that much harder to be kind to the others we come in contact with.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. It is, after all, Friday!

  1. Happy Birthday!

Enjoy whatever connection you had with your grandfather, don't diminish it by worrying that it wasn't more. He does sound interesting, though.

  3. First of all, I love the Zombie gravatar...that was the first thing I noticed when I popped over here! I really hope you sell a lot of your stuff. Your art is fab! You should do one of those etsy shops and sell online! Also, sorry about your grandfather. Wonderful that things are exciting and busy at the church. Sounds like your hopping all over the place!

  5. Thank you all!

Straight Guy, that's exactly what I'm doing, though I never got to spend any more than a couple of hours with him at the most.

Heather, I'm getting geared up! The memorial did go well and I hope we will be able to keep in touch will everyone that was there.

SuziCate, I'm glad you like the zombitar. :) I've considered an Etsy shop, I'm just not sure how to do it. Perhaps after all this excitement dies down a bit I'll have a chance to look in to it.

Dreamfarm Girl, I have been a little bubbly haven't I? I think I'm just ready for my annual tea party. :D

Miss Tink, can you believe you've been blogging for a year? I was looking at an old post on my site and saw your comment about starting your own.
Congratulations on that, most blogs are abandoned around the six month point.
Also? Zombies rule, but you knew that.
