We've discovered that Matthew has this wonderful ability to ignore absolutely everyone, especially if they're telling him no. By the time I get to bed each night, I am completely and utterly exhausted. Take Saturday for example. Hubby and I got up early and got the house cleaned. Floors got vacuumed, swept, and mopped, dishes done, and both the kitchen and livingroom were virtually spotless. We thought we would get to relax some the rest of the day, because the grass was still too wet from all the rain we've had the last week to mow. Enter my children. Within 5 minutes my oldest had toys, blankets, and stuffed animals strown throughout the livingroom and cartoons blaring, turning my clean little slice of the planet into something the likes of a 6 year old's club house. Why? His room was dirty, and there's no room for him to play in there! I finally convinced him that either he played in his room, or his stuff was going far far away. So, my living room was clean for a second time that day. Enter Hubby. There are 2 things you need to know about him. He loves playing flight simulator games and he loves candles. I have to hide candles from him if I want to keep them. On this lovely Saturday, he was playing his flight sim game on the Wii, after he lit every candle in the living room available. This is where we get back to Matthew. As the little one is cruising around the coffee table, he reaches up and grabs the decorative metal top of a lit jar candle, burning two of his fingers to the point of blistering. I should have seen this coming, but I didn't. My family is pretty accident prone. Thankfully I have half the mind to keep a stash of first aid supplies to limit the number of trips we take to the emergency room, and this includes silvadine. After getting Matthew's fingers cooled down, I applied the salve and spent 5 minutes trying to get his fingers wrapped up. Ten minutes later, I had to reapply new bandages, because the ones that were on his fingers mysteriously disappeared. This happened 2 or 3 times throughout the day. Add in the constant running after him, keeping him away from the cat litter box and the dog food, which he seems to think are open buffets, and pulling him out of cabinets he does not belong in, and I was exhausted. He went down about 9:30. Anyone want to babysit?
Wow!Hope little guys fingers are better now. I burned my hand last year, and googled for burn cures. I was surprised to read to apply Colgate toothpaste and bandage. I did it. Instant pain relief!I removed the bandage 24 hours later. No blister, not even red! It did dry out and peel about a week later though.
ReplyDeleteI'm exhausted just reading this! My husband also loves the flight simulator games. But maybe he could give up the candles till the little one gets a little older?! Hope the rest of your week is a bit quieter.
ReplyDeleteSuzicate, I'd never heard of that. His fingers are looking better, it's just keeping the bandages on and him out of the dirt!
ReplyDeleteDreamfarm Girl, I told him he was grounded from the candles. I bet our husbands would get along really well. My hubby is actually in the middle of building an actual flight simulator to play his games in!
I'll babysit yours if you babysit mine. He's recently taken up the art of magic...the little twit disappears without a moment's notice. And where does he go? Well, yesterday he cruised over to the neighbor's house to knock on their door and beg for a juice box. Nice. Not only do my neighbors now think I'm negligent by allowing my 3 year-old to roam the 'hood, I'm also not meeting his nutritional needs. I'm expecting a call from the State any moment now. :)

Mindy, my oldest did something similar, except I was in the back yard (where I told him I would be) and he went to the neighbor's house and told them I wasn't home. This is part of the reason why I now have my house alarm to beep any time a door opens. :)
ReplyDeleteYowsa! Hubby likes candles?? Why? For the soft light, or the smell?? I'm just curious...
ReplyDeleteOnly super-high-up candles for the foreseeable future! Those flames are super-interesting to the little ones, right?
Kathryn, I think it's for the smell. I think. Candles are definately put up now.
ReplyDeleteI'm just blown away that your hubby likes candles! I like them too, but my hubby hates them.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the little guys fingers.
This was a very exhausting post! I hope you find a babysitter soon. When does grandma become available?
