No, I don't have pictures, but it is absolutely gorgeous outside today. The sun is out, the birds are chirping. It makes me want to revisit this weekend, instead of being stuck in the flouresently lit cave also known as my office.
We threw a nice little shindig Saturday at the house. It was the perfect image of summer. Kids were playing in the sprinklers and eating popscicles on the back porch, while the grownups grilled burgers and hotdogs. We sat under the gazebo around my white antique table drinking lemonade, sweet tea, and beer, and talking about kids and life in general. Seriously people, life doesn't get much more perfect than that.
I'm glad I planned to start the party in the evening, because I spent the entire afternoon cleaning the carpet in my living room. It was totally worth it, though. The carpet is not finished, as I didn't move any furniture, but I'll get to it sometime this week before I have to take the cleaner back to my inlaws. I always forget what color my carpet originally was when we bought the house until I clean it. Fortunately, I won't have to deal with that much longer. We finally got my car paid off (YAY!!) so now I can start working towards saving to put wood floors in the livingroom and hall. Speaking of housework, we also went and ordered the new frame for our back door. It's PVC, so it won't rot! I'll probably install it next week or weekend sometime once it comes in. The week after that will probably be scraping and repainting the trim around the whole house.
I'm so glad we can finally afford to do these neccessary things, because we really can't put it aside any longer without detrimental effects. Seriously people, we couldn't have gotten this far had it not been for Dave Ramsey. If you don't know who he is, go check him out. A day never goes by that I'm not glad he has a program to help those of us who have had to pay some stupid tax. Hubby and I have managed to pay off 3 credit cards and both our cars in the last couple of years. We should have our house paid off within the next 10 years, if not sooner. We will NEVER go into debt again. And with the prospect of my mom and brother hopefully moving out at the end of the summer, it couldn't have happened at a better time. Now, if you have debt or want a better idea on how to manage your money, go visit Dave's website. I promise, you won't be sorry!! I will be a millionaire one day, if only because I finally learned how to manage my own money. :)
Let me just say "Thank You" for the link to flotsam. Your help is crucial to the growth of my media empire (admittedly slow, but INEXORABLE. INEXORABLE I tell you!)
ReplyDeleteI would also suggest that, since you appear to enjoy the posts at flotsam, you see a qualified mental health professional for a complete evaluation. You sick puppy.
Seriously, thanks for the link.

Well, good for you sweets! All in all, hardwood floors are so much easier on upkeep than carpet-and you'll suffer less from allergies as well.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're on your way!
Kudos to you!
PAgent, if you're planning on taking over the world, I'm in on it with ya! lol Yes, I need mental help, but I don't know many people who don't!
ReplyDeleteKathryn, allergies are one of the reasons I'm going that way. Both the boys have been so sick, and I know it's allergies. The cat hair is much easier to get up too. :)
What a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteGlad yall are getting to start on the house.
Yeah for hardwood floors and new doors!
Awesome...I keep saying I'm going to check out his site (I've seen him on tv) and I'm on my way there right now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm very luck that Mrs. Straight Guy had the foresight to set us on the right path financially. I can take little credit, except for sticking to the plan and often going without the things I thought I wanted at the time. I don't take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteI will have an award on my post in the morning for you!
