A Thoroughly Adventurous Weekend

I hope you all had a great Easter! We had an extremely busy weekend at our house, which included yard work and house cleaning. Oh, and kindergarteners.

I spent my "holiday" off on Friday with my oldest's class helping with the Easter egg hunt and doing their spring party. Those kids wore me out, but we had a blast making dirt from cake and gummy worms, butterfly handprints, doorknob hangers, and eating pizza. I was ready for a nap by the time it was all done. I get to chaparone on their field trip to the zoo next week. Looks like I'm gonna have to stock up on gum, because you can't smoke in the zoo, and Lord knows I'm going to need it. I know, very masochistic of me, huh?

Saturday was, of course, my ceramics class, and I was one unhappy camper, let me tell ya. One of the greenfire kilns stopped working properly, possibly turning everything that was in it to ash. None of my pieces were in there. As a matter of fact, none of my pieces made it to a kiln at all last week. So, I only had my cups to glaze, which wasn't a pretty sight once I was done with them. I also had no clay, since I never took the time to buy any, due to my ever hectic week. Hence, no pictures yet. This is really driving me crazy. Don't these people understand I have a commitment to my fellow bloggers to post pictures?!

I took my frustrations out on my holly bushes. A borrowed hedge trimmer and 2 hours later, I have 4 40 gallon bags of trimmings and the scars to prove that they put up a good fight, but I won. I butchered them, but in all fairness, they needed it. They are covered in scale. (See the buggers here.) And in order to get to the nasty little things, I had to cut a lot out. The limbs are definately NOT going into my compost.

I feel bad about sleeping in and not going to church Sunday, but hey, I was thoroughly exhausted. The boys did their Easter egg hunt in the backyard. It's funny because, even at 9 months old, my youngest seemed to understand the concept of picking up the eggs and putting them in a basket, after he chewed on them, of course. Now, if only he could understand the concept of a nap, which he refused to do all weekend. I would have pictures, but alas the batteries in the camera died yesterday mid shooting. I'm breaking down today and buying more, so I don't have to retrieve more from the remotes.

This brings us all back around to this very warm Monday morning, where I'm trying to get enough coffee down so I can see straight, and ward off the swelling that has been going on in my hands and feet thanks to the high humidity. Spring is here! So, how was your weekend?

  2. Well, shoot! You did have quite a weekend! We did make it to church for Easter (although bedgrudgingly...I know, real nice) and actually had a relaxing rest of the day. No big dinners here, just cold cuts and CostCo potato rolls. Yep, I sure know how to put on a shindig, eh? Hope your week goes well and your zoo trip is a success! No cigs and all. =)

  3. Two words: Peep overdose. I can't see straight either.

Emperor Constantine really pulled something together for this holiday he created way back when. What exactly do hidden eggs, fancy clothes, glazed ham, candy, and the resurrection have to do with each other again? I only celebrate three things from that list, and you can guess which ones...

  4. Aw, honey. You might have swollen hands from your fight with the holly bushes...don't forget about that prizefight!

I'm exhausted just listening to your busy weekend...Hope you enjoyed the trip to the zoo! It's a beautiful day here...and hopefully the animals will all stay downwind!

  5. You are reminding me what it is like to have little ones. They are so rewarding but it's a lot of work too. That part is easy to forget! Enjoy the spring weather...god awful days of summer will be here soon enough!

  6. Suzicate, I'm glad you got to relax and be productive. That's hard to do sometimes.

Mindy, cold cuts and potato rolls sound just fine to me. Still better than hotdogs. :)

Straight Guy, I'm not going to guess on that one. I can't do the peeps. I'd rather save them until we go camping, then watch them melt in the fire. They occassionally scream. :D

Kathryn, my hands were protected mostly from the bushes. The zoo trip is in about 2 weeks, and I'm not looking forward to the monkey house.

Dreamfarm Girl, they are a lot of work, aren't they? I'm enjoying my 80 degree weather now. In a month we'll all be complaining about 100+!

  7. Wow what a busy weekend! I;m sure you deserved sleeping in late on sunday.

My weekend was a little dull, we just sat at home. I did try to go grocery shopping sunday, but the store was closed.
